Chrissy Teigen spoke out after people attacked her for posting a picture in which she is openly breastfeeding her newborn son, Miles Theodore Stephens.
Since giving birth, Teigen has been vocal about the realities of pregnancy and raising two children. She has received praise and criticism both, and has been vocal on social media against the haters.
On Saturday, Teigen posted a picture of herself breastfeeding Miles. Luna, Teigen and John Legend’s older daughter put a doll up to Teigen’s chest and had her pretend to feed the doll as well. Teigen wrote, “Luna making me feed her babydoll so I guess I have twins now.”
One follower replied to the tweet saying, “Christ in a hand basket. Menstruating, childbirth and sex are all natural, too, but that doesn’t mean I want to see pics of it and/or celebrities like @chrissyteigen taking a bath or nursing. We get it.” In usual form, Teigen replied to the tweet by asking the user to mind their own business. She wrote, “I don’t care to see grainy fireworks, coachella selfies or infinity pool pics but i let people live. calm your t**s and scroll on by (sic).”
Another follower tweeted a since-then deleted message to which Teigen replied, “Nah. Just chilin. Posting daily life like I do with anything else. Cooking, playing with dogs, etc. You make feeding a baby big deal because you got weird t***y issues.”
Teigen also fired back at followers that commented against breastfeeding on Instagram. She wrote back directly to one comment. A follower wrote, “But why get topless…Even Luna wanted to cover her Mom up…One does not have to pull their clothes off to breast feed. Chrissy has always been very loose & freely I get that but too much just to breastfeed … (sic).” In response, Teigen wrote, “it’s just food, girl. He’s eating. Don’t blame me for your weirdo t***y issues.”
Another follower of hers wrote, “As a board certified Lactation Consultant, thank you for normalizing breastfeeding!” Another user with the handle @jebrown99 posted a since-then deleted comment attacking Teigen. Fans immediately rose up to defend her, and one fan, @bannisterbrood6, also started calling people out for liking comments. Responding to the latter, Teigen wrote, “@bannisterbrood6 lol I blocked them both. Don’t be likin mean sh*t about me! I’m so petty.”
According to the CDC, giving a child that has recently gone from being an only child to an elder sibling a toy doll encourages them to step into the role of a caregiver.
