Nick Grimshaw revealed on Thursday on his last Radio 1 Breakfast Show that One Direction is never getting back together.
One Direction was an English-Irish pop boy band comprising Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles and Liam Payne, The group was formed in 2010 when Simon Cowell signed them to his record label Syco Labels, and split up in 2016. Zayn Malik departed from the group first in 2015. The group was discovered as independent contestants of the seventh season of the British show The X Factor.
Fans have always hoped that the band might regroup one day, but Grimshaw broke that hope today. While talking to his former producer, Fiona Hanlow, Grimshaw said, “When we started this show [One Direction] were all together as a five piece. Do you think they’ll ever get back together?” He answered his own question saying, “No, not a chance, it’s not happening is it?”
Fans of the boy band immediately took over social media to rant about the unfairness of the situation.
One wrote, “So @grimmers just said on his last breakfast show that one direction getting back together was “never going to happen”. Thank you for literally ruining my life.”
“Grimmy just said he didn’t think 1D would get back together again. Thanks for putting that out there pal,” another said.
Another fan complained, “What the hell is wrong with him? Why suddenly is he speaking like he is the 1D’s pr chief?”
“‘Grimmy just said there’s not a chance they’re getting back together, he better be joking,” another threatened Grimshaw.
“I can’t tell if he was saying it jokingly tho cause lets be real who knows most about 1D?” another speculated.
Liam Payne admitted to a possibility of a One Direction reunion earlier this year in an interview with Daily Star. He said that he was excited for another great time, but said that it would not be able to happen for at least two years given the very busy personal schedules of all the members. He said, “It’s amazing that we’re doing our own thing and then, hopefully one day soon, we get back together and have another great time of it, who knows?”
One Direction released five albums while together, and all of them topped most markets.
