11 week old Prince Louis’ christening was done in true Royal fashion. Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh were missing from the ceremony.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended the christening of their youngest son along with four-year-old Prince George and three-year-old Princess Charlotte. Price Louis was born on April 23, 2018. This is the first time the newly expanded family has all appeared in public together.
The Archbishop of Canterbury was present outside the chapel to greet the guests, including Prince William, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. He also greeted the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, after conducting their wedding back in May. The couple stood and talked to the Archibishop for a while before heading inside. Meghan wore a Ralph Lauren dress with a Stephen Jones hat for the occasion.
The Archibishop expressed his delight at being asked to conduct the ceremony. He wrote, “I’m delighted and privileged to be christening Prince Louis today – a precious child made in God’s image, just as we all are. Please join me in praying for him and his family on this special day.”
Kate arrived with a sleeping Louis in her arms separate of Prince William. Also present at the celebration were James and Pippa Matthews, Michael and Carole Middleton and Prince Charles. Prince Louis’ six godparents also attended the entire celebration.
Due to the royal schedule, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh were unable to attend the christening of their youngest great-grandchild. It was clarified that there were no health reasons barring the two from attending the celebrations. In the next week, the 92 year old Queen has a celebration in central London marking the centenary of RAF on Tuesday and a visit by Donald Trump in Windsor on Friday.
Keeping with the tradition she established, Kate Middleton wore a custom-made cream Alexander McQueen dress to the event. She wore the same designer and color at the christenings of Prince George and Princess Charlotte. She paired the look with a hat by Jane Taylor.
Prince Louis matched his mother in a cream royal frilly lace christening gown. The gown is a replica of the one made in 1841 for Queen Victoria’s eldest daughter. It was also worn by his father.
His six godparents are Lucy Middleton, Nicholas van Cutsem, Guy Pelly, Harry Aubrey-Fletcher, The Lady Laura Meade, and Hannah Carter. The group arrived at the service before the family, reaching around 4pm.
Matt Holyoak was the official photographer at the event. He also photographed the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh for their 70th wedding anniversary last year.
