Earlier this week, both Travis Scott and his album photographer David LaChapelle shared album art. Fans noticed a stark difference in one picture posted by both Travis and David. In David’s picture, transgender model Amanda Lepore was clearly visible. However, she had been edited out of the picture Scott posted on his social media.

Fans immediately started criticizing him for being transphobic. Scott remained silent on the issue himself initially while LaChapelle took to Instagram to defend him. He told fans, “There is a lot of Amanda in my new books ‘Lost & Found’ and ‘Good News’.” He also replied to a criticism of Scott saying, “Truth Travis don’t give a f*** about anything except making [fire emojis].” He replied to another critic, writing, “everybody wants to explain everything with some phobia or whatever this is just a case of something else.”

The model herself took to LaChapelle’s Instagram to appreciate the post writing, “Love it!” She later also commented on the controversy light-heartedly, writing, “A girl can’t help it! Too distracting for the eyes! Upstaged everyone in the photograph! Oh well… I love @davidlachapelle and @travisscott! Love and kisses.”

Scott finally took to Instagram to address the controversy with a statement on Instagram. He wrote, “Thank you David LaChapelle and Amanda Lepore and everyone that came out to make all the covers and the vision come to life! ASTROWORLD IS ABOUT LOVE AND EXPRESSION NOT HATE!

He added, “This is very important for me to speak up about: Growing up I’ve been taught to accept everyone, not to cast people away but bring them in your home! I have nothing but respect for the LGBTQ community. I want to use my voice to make it clear that everyone on this planet is as equal and f–king awesome to the next. Me and LaChapelle set out to create images that I grew up watching him create for years that inspire me today.

He also addressed Amanda directly, writing, “Yo, Amanda, you did upstage everyone—even me.” He also said, “I can’t wait for everyone to see the booklet that me and Dave put together that includes all these images. Thank you for being a part of it. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Love you guys and THANK YOU ALL!!!
